How to Care for Your Dentures

Our Smiles Dental team in Longview, Washington, is pleased to provide dentures for our patients who have lost teeth and want their confident smile back. Dentures are custom-made oral appliances created to replace missing teeth. So how do you care for your new dentures?

Denture Care

The first thing you want to remember is that your dentures are fragile and if you accidentally drop them, they can break. You also don’t want them to dry out, as this can cause them to warp, so when you aren’t wearing them, keep them in warm or cold water (never hot) or a cleansing solution for dentures.

You will want to brush your dentures so that they don’t become stained, and to keep them clear from plaque and food debris. Before your put your dentures in for the day, use a soft-bristled toothbrush to brush your gums, tongue, cheeks and roof of your mouth. This will remove dental plaque and help prevent bad breath.

If you use adhesives with your dentures, be sure to follow the directions for their use exactly. Our dentist can recommend the best cleaners and adhesives to use, and of course, always use a product that carries the ADA Seal of Acceptance to ensure that they are both safe and effective.

Our skilled dentists, Dr. Doman, Dr. Stark, Dr. Jardine and Dr. Andros are happy to help you restore your confident smile. Please see your dentist if your dentures become loose, break, chip or crack so that they can be repaired properly. For more information, please feel free to give us a call today at 360.200.6995.
